What Does AI Video Production Cost In Dubai?

BudgetingDubai

No studio, ours included, can honestly tell you what your film costs before the brief, and a number given before then is answering a different brief from the one you are about to describe. That sounds like an evasion, so this article sets out why it is true, what you can find out today without talking to anybody, and what to check in any number you are eventually given.

Why there is no price list

Two enquiries can use the same words and be completely different productions.

A thirty second brand film, in one language, in one shape, for a website. And a thirty second brand film, in three languages, in four shapes, for a launch that runs across a property portal, a feed, an event screen and a broker deck. Same sentence in an email. Not the same job, and not by a small margin.

A published price would have to assume one of them. If it assumes the small one, every real project arrives over budget. If it assumes the big one, the number frightens off the projects it would have suited. So we price a project from its brief and confirm it in writing before anything starts, and our pricing page explains that method rather than printing a figure.

The four things that decide it

Four decisions do most of the work. In the order they should be settled:

Whether it has to be filmed for real. This changes the answer more than anything else, because it decides whether a shoot can be replaced at all.

How many formats it ships in. Wide, upright and square are three compositions, not one file at three widths.

How many languages it ships in. On a shoot, matching lips means filming again with local talent. In a pipeline built around frame accurate lip sync, the computing is a published per minute rate and the studio's own work is priced from the brief.

How long the finished piece is. Real, and smaller than people assume. It is also the one that can safely change late, because trimming a film is a question about the edit.

We have written the long version of all four, with the published market figures and a named source for each, in what drives the cost of a brand film. If you only read one more thing, read that one.

What makes it a Dubai question

The local part of the answer sits almost entirely on the shoot side, and all of it is published.

Filming in a public location here needs a permit from the Dubai Film and TV Commission. Crew and equipment are charged at Dubai day rates, which run wide because they cover junior crews through to senior ones. Filming inside a hotel, a mall or a private development is charged separately again. None of that is hidden, and all of it is in the tool below with its source attached.

The part that is easy to miss is what the published ranges leave out. Talent and usage rights are not in them at all, because what they cost depends on who is cast and where the film runs. Treat any shoot figure you are shown, including ours, as a floor rather than a total.

How to get a range today

We publish an estimate tool. It asks how long the film is, how many languages and shapes it needs, and whether it has to be filmed for real, then sets published shoot ranges beside the computing and dubbing cost of generating the film, in dirhams and in working days. The computing figure leaves out our own work and fee.

Two things about it are worth knowing. Every line in the result names the published source the figure came from, so you can check it rather than trust it. And it is not a quote. The ranges are deliberately wide, and it is built to give you something to think with before a conversation, not instead of one.

It does not ask for your email. Open the estimate tool and come to a conversation already knowing the shape of the answer.

What to check in any number you are given

Three things, whoever you are talking to.

What it excludes. Talent, usage rights and private location fees are the ones our own tool names, and they are the ones most often left out of a first number. Ask for them by name.

Whether it is a range or a quote. Both are useful. Confusing one for the other is where projects go wrong.

Whether a shoot is actually the right answer. There are five cases where it plainly is: a real named person on camera, a live event, a physical product that has to be shown exactly as it is, broadcast or regulatory approvals that require actual footage, and real recognisable locations that have to be the real place. Our own tool lists all five, because a studio should tell you when its own way of working is not the one you need.

What to bring to the first conversation

You will get a far more useful answer if you arrive with four things settled: what the piece has to do and for whom, where it runs and therefore which shapes, which languages and markets, and roughly how long.

Our method starts exactly there. Nothing is committed and nothing is quoted at the brief stage, and scope and a realistic timeline come out of that conversation rather than going into it. All eight kinds of production we run start the same way, and they are listed on our services page.

If you would rather write it down than talk it through, the project brief form asks the same questions in the same order.

Common questions

Why is there no price list?
Because the same request can be two very different productions. A film in one language and one shape, and the same film in three languages and four shapes, use the same words in a brief and are not the same job. We price a project from its brief and confirm it in writing before anything starts.
Can I find out anything before I contact a studio?
Partly. Our estimate tool sets published Dubai shoot ranges against the published computing and dubbing cost of generating the same film, in dirhams and working days, and names the source behind every line. The computing figure is not our price, it is not a quote, and it does not ask for your details.
Is a generated production always cheaper than a shoot?
No. It removes the stage where a camera has to be pointed at a real place, which is where a lot of cost and most of the scheduling sits. There are five cases where a shoot is plainly the better answer, and the estimate tool lists all five rather than talking you out of one.
What makes a Dubai number different from another city's?
Mostly the published local costs on the shoot side: a Dubai Film and TV Commission permit for a public location, Dubai crew day rates, and separate fees for filming inside a hotel, a mall or a private development.
What happens at the first conversation?
We work out what the piece has to do, who it is for, where it runs, and in which formats and languages. Scope, shot count and a realistic timeline come out of that. Nothing is committed and nothing is quoted at that stage.

Working on something like this?

These notes describe how the studio runs its own productions. If you have a piece that needs the same discipline, send the brief over. Nothing is committed and nothing is quoted at that stage.
